Course Overview

Are you working in the resources or infrastructure industries? This course is designed specifically for professionals like you, equipping you with essential skills to follow WHS/OHS policies and maintain a safe workplace.

Through hands-on training, you will learn to confidently:

  • Access and apply site safety procedures

  • Implement personal and operational safety measures

  • Sustain personal wellbeing and fitness for work

  • Apply safe manual handling techniques

  • Respond effectively to emergency situations

  • Identify, report and prevent workplace incidents

By the end of this course, participants will be equipped with practical skills to actively contribute to a positive safety culture and safer workplace practices.

Units Delivered

On successful completion, participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:

  • RIIWHS201E – Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered and assessed:

  • In the workplace, or

  • At a facility organised by the training provider.

Course Duration

Course durations vary depending on delivery method. Minimum face-to-face contact times are:

  • Refresher: 3 hours

  • Full Face-to-Face: 4 hours

Entry Requirements

Participants must demonstrate:

  • Physical and Psychological Capability – to complete practical tasks

  • PPE – protective footwear and suitable clothing

  • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Skills – to:

    • Read and interpret WHS documentation, site procedures and safety requirements

    • Communicate clearly in English during emergency responses

    • Complete forms and reports accurately

    • Apply problem-solving processes to assess and control risks

Assessment Requirements

Assessment includes both written and practical tasks:

Practical Assessments

  • Scenario 1: Apply operational safety measures for a work at heights scenario

  • Scenario 2: Recognise and respond to an alarm

  • Documentation: Pre-operation safety checklist, electrical access permit sign-on, incident report form

Theory Assessment

  • Short-answer and multiple-choice written questions

Certificate Renewal

This certificate does not require renewal.
