HLTAID014 – Provide Advanced First Aid

Challenging situations such as multiple casualty incidents, moving or extricating casualties, or treating potentially fatal illnesses and injuries are high risk. It is imperative that training occurs to ensure you know what to do when confronted with a real-life incident.

This course provides practical, simulated real-life situations to build confidence in coordinating and managing advanced first aid responses in line with legal, workplace and community considerations, Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, and other national peak clinical bodies, until emergency services arrive.

You will learn both basic first aid and CPR, as well as advanced treatments, including:

  • Hypothermia and hyperthermia

  • Head, neck and spinal injuries

  • Tourniquet use and haemostatic dressings for life-threatening bleeding

  • Managing shock and critical conditions

The course also covers casualty monitoring, workplace incident documentation, debriefing, recognising psychological impacts, and seeking help as required.

Units Delivered

On successful completion, you will receive a certificate including the following nationally recognised units of competency:

  • HLTAID014 – Provide Advanced First Aid

  • HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • HLTAID010 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support

  • HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid

Course Delivery Options

Online + Face-to-Face Assessment

  • Pre-course online study with electronic assessment

  • Minimum 6 hours face-to-face contact time

Best suited for learners comfortable with online study and assessment.

Face-to-Face (Preferred for Community Delivery)

  • Fully classroom-based delivery

  • Minimum 16 hours (2 days) face-to-face contact time

Recommended for learners who prefer hands-on, practical instruction or may struggle with online assessments.

Entry Requirements

  • Must be physically able to perform practical demonstrations, including 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and rescue breathing techniques on manikins.

  • Online learners require access to a computer, smartphone, or tablet with internet access.

Assessment Requirements

You will complete both written and practical assessments, including:

  • CPR on adult and infant (with AED and recovery position)

  • First aid incident report documentation

  • Managing casualties with: anaphylaxis, asthma, choking, bleeding, shock, nosebleeds, fractures, dislocations, sprains, strains, envenomation

  • Simulated scenario: life-threatening bleed

  • Coordinating a multiple casualty incident

  • Theory assessment: multiple-choice questions

Certificate Renewal Recommendations

  • HLTAID014 – Provide Advanced First Aid: 36 months

  • HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid: 36 months

  • HLTAID010 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support: 36 months

  • HLTAID009 – Provide CPR: 12 months
