HLTAID011- Provide First Aid
With instruction and practical training in line with legal, workplace, and community considerations, Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, and other Australian national peak clinical bodies, this First Aid course equips you with the skills and knowledge to recognise emergencies and provide immediate and effective treatment to anyone suffering a sudden illness or injury.
What You Will Learn
The course covers a wide range of essential first aid skills, including:
Assessing casualties and ensuring scene safety
Activating emergency services and using available resources
Providing CPR and using a defibrillator (AED)
Administering an autoinjector for anaphylaxis and asthma medication
Assisting a choking casualty
Immobilisation techniques for fractures, dislocations, sprains, strains, and envenomation
Managing non-life-threatening bleeding, nosebleeds, and shock
Understanding basic anatomy, physiology, and differences in CPR for adults, children, and infants
The chain of survival and effective reporting of incident details
Reviewing incidents to improve performance and recognising psychological impacts
Units Delivered
On successful completion, participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following units:
HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
HLTAID010 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support (BELS)
Course Delivery Options
Refresher Face to Face contact time of at least 6 Hours
Blended Face to Face contact time of at least 6 Hours
Face-to-face Face to Face contact time of at least 7 Hours 30 Mins
Online with face-to-face assesment Face to Face contact time of at least 1 Hours
Both options include incident reporting activities, practical scenarios, and verbal assessments to suit diverse learning styles.
Entry Requirements
Participants must:
Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and rescue breathing techniques on manikins.
Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.
Assessment Activities
Practical Tasks:
CPR on adult and infant manikins
AED use and casualty recovery positioning
Managing casualties (anaphylaxis, asthma, choking, bleeding, fractures, sprains, dislocations, envenomation)
First Aid incident reporting
Theory Assessment:
Written multiple-choice questions (with verbal delivery available where required)
Certificate Renewal
The industry-recommended renewal period is 36 months.
