Confine Small Emergencies in a Facility (PUAFER008)
This course provides the skills and knowledge required to prepare for emergency situations, identify and assess an emergency, safely confine small emergencies, use initial response equipment, and report on a facility’s emergency response.
It is designed for occupants of a facility—such as employees, contractors, students, or residents—who are required to have first attack firefighting skills.
Examples of small emergencies include:
A small fire that can be controlled using a fire extinguisher
A minor chemical spill that can be safely contained with PPE and a spill kit
A vehicle accident with no significant injury or damage
All training is delivered in line with legislative requirements, organisational policies, and Australian Standards AS 3745 and AS 4083.
What You Will Learn
Participants will develop practical skills to:
Apply WHS/OHS requirements
Communicate with occupants, emergency personnel, and stakeholders
Identify, assess, and respond to an emergency
Safely confine emergencies using initial response equipment
Report facility emergency responses and complete documentation
Implement facility emergency procedures and follow instructions
Restow and maintain response equipment

Entry Requirements
Participants must have the physical capacity to safely confine emergencies using response equipment.
Online study participants require a device with internet access and basic computer skills.
Assessment
Performance Tasks: Prepare for emergency situations, manage a small chemical spill, extinguish a small fire.
Documentation: Complete an incident/emergency report.
Theory: Written multiple-choice and short-answer assessment.
