PUAFER005 Fire Warden and PUAFER008 Fire Extinguisher training
Course Overview
Commonly known as the Warden and Extinguisher Use course, this program is designed for individuals who are required to implement an emergency response as outlined in their facility’s emergency procedures or directed by higher-level members of the Emergency Control Organisation (ECO).
Participants will learn to work within the ECO structure, covering:
Pre-emergency planning
Command, control, and coordination roles
Emergency response actions
Post-emergency activities
The course also develops the skills and knowledge required to confine small emergencies in a facility, including:
Small fires controlled with extinguishers
Chemical spills managed with PPE and spill kits
Minor vehicle accidents with no significant injury or damage
Training is aligned with Australian Standard 3745 (Planning for Emergencies in Facilities) and Australian Standard 4083 (Health Care Facilities). It applies to employees across all industries and contexts.
Learning Outcomes
On completion, participants will be able to:
Apply WHS/OHS requirements
Assist occupants, including those needing help
Assist with post-emergency activities
Contribute to facility emergency planning
Lead or act as deputy within an ECO
Initiate and control emergency responses
Use communications systems effectively
Brief emergency services personnel
Confine emergencies safely and identify hazards
Use initial response equipment (extinguishers, spill kits, etc.)
Undertake risk management processes
Complete facility emergency reporting

Online + Face-to-Face Assessment

Entry Requirements
Physical capacity to complete all practical demonstrations (including assisting occupants, wearing ECO identification, using communications systems and equipment).
For online study (if applicable): access to a device (computer, smartphone, or tablet) with internet connection and ability to complete video-based learning.
