Advanced Resuscitation & Oxygen Therapy (HLTAID015)

This course is delivered in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and the First Aid Code of Practice. It is designed for individuals who may be required to provide first aid, CPR, and oxygen therapy in complex situations across both workplace and community settings.

Through simulated real-life scenarios, participants will develop the confidence and competence to use and maintain specialised equipment for the provision of advanced first aid, resuscitation, and oxygen therapy.

Course Content

Participants will receive instruction and hands-on practice in:

  • Providing CPR and advanced resuscitation

  • Safely administering oxygen at correct flow rates

  • Inserting and using basic airway adjuncts

  • Using tourniquets and haemostatic dressings for life-threatening bleeding

  • Recording casualty conditions and completing workplace incident documentation

  • Effective communication with emergency services

  • Debriefing for improvement and recognising psychological impacts

Units Delivered

On successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the following nationally recognised units:

  • HLTAID015 – Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy

  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed on-site in the workplace or at a training facility organised by the provider.

Delivery options include:

  • Online with face-to-face assessment: minimum 3.5 hours in class (with pre-course study)

  • Full face-to-face: minimum 6 hours contact time

Learners who prefer practical, kinaesthetic training are encouraged to choose the face-to-face option.

Entry Requirements

  • Participants must be physically capable of performing CPR (including 2 minutes of uninterrupted compressions on the floor).

  • For online study, participants require a device with internet access.

  • Pre-requisite: HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (HLTAID003 is not accepted).

Assessment

Assessment is competency-based and includes both theory and practical components:

  • Practical tasks:

    • Perform adult and infant CPR (incl. use of AED, oxygen, and bag-valve-mask)

    • Manage life-threatening bleeding and provide oxygen therapy

    • Complete and submit an incident report

    • Maintain resuscitation equipment

  • Theory assessment:

    • Written multiple-choice questions

Certificate Renewal

Industry guidelines recommend renewal of:

  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation – every 12 months

  • HLTAID015 Advanced resuscitation & oxygen therapy – every 12 months
