Under the Queensland Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008, the appointment of a Fire Safety Advisor (FSA) is mandatory in the following cases:
High-occupancy workplaces: Any Class 2, 3, 5, 6, 7b, 8, 9a, or 9b building where 30 or more workers are normally employed.
High-rise residential buildings: Any Class 2 or 3 building exceeding 25 metres in effective height (measured from ground level to the floor of the highest storey, as defined by the Building Code of Australia). For these buildings, the number of workers is irrelevant.
Licensed premises deemed at risk: Any facility or venue that the Commissioner of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) designates as requiring an FSA due to identified fire safety risks.
